DRC
Arms Destruction
RECSA
was invited by the Vice Minister for
Interior and Security of the Democratic

arms destruction ceremony. The event
was symbolic as it marked the destruction
of the 100,000th firearm in the country.
In the same function, DRC officially
launched the commencement of the arms
marking exercise to be undertaken with
equipment donated to the country by
RECSA. Officers from the Police and

in the use of the electronic machines
for arms marking in a national training
workshop held in November 2009. The
Secretariat will provide technical support
during the exercise.

In view of the on going war in DRC since 1997and the obvious insecurity prevailing at some of its borders, illicit movement and traffic of Small Arms and Light Weapons remain a major concern. The post conflict current situation of the country is characterized by some structures of demobilization and rehabilitation of child soldiers and war internally displaced people. Many NGO's have been contributing in mobilizing and raising awareness among communities on the negative impact of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
To facilitate the process of disarmament, demobilization and rehabilitation of former fighters, DRC has set the Illicit Traffic of Small Arms and Light Weapons Committee which is the DR Congo National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons. The DR Congo National Focal Point was officially launched on 20th October 2004. Major achievement includes:
Effective contribution from local CSO'S; NGO'S and international community towards creating and mobilizing awareness among communities on the negative impact of small arms and light weapons
