Kampala, Uganda – October 2, 2025
The Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA), in partnership with the African Union, AUC Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uganda, is proud to announce the Continental Launch of Africa Amnesty Month 2025.
The event will take place on October 2, 2025, at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort in Kampala, Uganda, under the theme: “Safer Communities Through Voluntary Disarmament.”
Africa Amnesty Month is a flagship initiative under the Silencing the Guns in Africa agenda, aimed at promoting peace and security through the voluntary surrender of illegally held weapons.
As part of the launch, a symbolic burning of obsolete firearms will be held on October 3, 2025, in Jinja, Uganda—a powerful statement reaffirming Africa’s collective commitment to disarmament and safer communities.
This initiative contributes directly to the aspirations of Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, reinforcing the continent’s dedication to ending armed conflict and fostering sustainable development.
